Downloadable PDF course

Learn Dutch with a PDF course you actually own

A complete Dutch course as a PDF you download once and keep. No subscription, no app, no login. Print it, read it on your tablet, or annotate it on your laptop. Everything is explained in clear English, from the alphabet to A2.

What you get

Two PDF courses, both written for English speakers who are starting from nothing.

CourseSizePriceWhat is inside
Dutch A125 chapters, A0 to A1€9.99The alphabet, pronunciation, key verbs, sentence structure and everyday vocabulary
Dutch A243 chapters, A0 to A2€14.99Everything in A1 plus more grammar, more vocabulary and real conversation practice

A2 contains the whole of A1, so you do not need to buy both. If you already know you want to reach A2, start there.

Why a PDF instead of an app

Apps are good at daily habit and weak at explaining. A written course does the opposite: it explains a rule properly, shows you examples, and stays there when you want to look it up again three weeks later.

  • You own it. One payment, yours permanently. No monthly fee, no account that can expire.
  • It works offline. On the train, on a plane, in a waiting room.
  • You can print it. Plenty of learners print a chapter at a time and write on it, which is genuinely effective.
  • You can search it. Looking up de and het takes seconds.
  • It is linear. Chapter one to chapter forty-three, no algorithm deciding what you see next.

What is in a chapter

Every chapter follows the same shape: a short explanation in plain English, Dutch examples with translations, the exceptions worth knowing, and, in most chapters, links to short interactive online exercises (on Wordwall). Nothing assumes you studied linguistics.

Most chapters end with links to short interactive online exercises (on Wordwall), so the PDF is the backbone and the exercises give you practice.

Is this right for you?

Yes, if you are starting from zero or close to it, you live in or are moving to the Netherlands, you want grammar explained in English, and you prefer to study at your own pace.

Probably not, if you already speak Dutch at B1, you need certified exam preparation for the Staatsexamen NT2, or you mainly want conversation practice with a teacher. For the inburgeringsexamen at A2, the A2 course plus our exam practice packs is the better combination.

Common questions

How do I receive the PDF?

Immediately after payment you get a download link by email. The file is yours to keep, and you can download it again whenever you need.

Can I print it?

Yes. It is a normal PDF with no printing restrictions, so you can print the whole thing or one chapter at a time.

Do I need A1 before A2?

No. The A2 course starts at the alphabet and includes all 43 chapters, so it covers everything in A1 as well.

Is there audio?

The course itself is written. Pronunciation is explained in writing, and chapter 1 links to three free pronunciation videos. Apart from those, the course has no videos, so for listening practice, combine the course with Dutch radio, podcasts or conversations.

Is there a free sample?

The free exercises and the blog use the same explanations and the same voice as the course, so they are a fair preview of what you would be buying.
